Electronic system of the vehicle

Since towbars are installed to tow on the vehicles it has been necesssary to transfer the functions of lighting of the vehicle to the trailer or caravan (population, brakes, indicators…) so in order to do that it is necessary to double these functions and to send the power of the vehicle lights as well as the trailer, now there are two types of electrical cables:
  • Universal and Universals with Module: where the cables for towing plug directly into the vehicle with quick connectors, one for each lighting function.
  • Specific: where the wiring for the towing service connects to the vehicle by specific connectors for each model of vehicle, or directly in the Can-Bus lines of the vehicle
The continuing development of the automotive industry is reflected in the incorporation of new electronic systems designed to improve our comfort and our safety (lights, airbag, air conditioning, ABS, ESP, TSP, ...), this implies a considerable increase in wiring the vehicle to fix the problem this poses, the car manufacturers use various electronic systems (Can-Bus, Multiplexed, PWM, thin section cables ) or also to control the electricity consumption in the vehicle (Check-Control, ... .) All this leads us to use Specific Wiring kits developed for each model of vehicle or with Universal Power Module Kits that manage the proper functioning of the lights of the towed vehicle.

Standard electronics system used on the vehicles to light the rear lights of the automobile that use a cable for each function without going through a communication node. Used in most of the cars manufactured before the year 2002 or likewise in low categories of current vehicles.

It is the protocol of transmission of digital information between different devices of the vehicle, where a Main Control Unit (CPU) manages any element of the vehicle, both safety and comfort or engine management, the information flows through a pair of bound cables that bind all communication nodes that form the vehicle electronics. This provides increased vehicle functions at decreasing the number of wires that are necessary for its operation.

It is a system of pulse width modulation which allows the vehicle to integrate both functions into a single lamp. There are two kinds of possibilities:
  • Multiplexed lamps of position and brake
  • Multiplexed lamps of position and fog

The system L.F.S. (Light Failure System) let us know by sound or visual signal the fault occurred in any of the bulbs of the vehicle. Not only is activated when a lamp fails, but when an extra consumption, which happens if we use standard universal wiring kits, because we are multiplying the consumption for which the car system is prepared for. The way to avoid a malfunction of the vehicle is to use prepared kits so that is not altered the system that manages the use of lights.

Cables of Thin Section (AS)
The use of cables of thin section on the vehicles is due to try to get a reduction of the overall amount of used cable; this also affects the electrical installation for the use of the towbar or caravan, since using standard universal kits, the thin cables that the vehicle has are not able to endure all the intensity of the electrical power that need the set(main vehicle + towed vehicle) at the same time and thus an excess of consumption occurs with an increase of the temperature of the vehicle’s cables with the subsequent risk that this entails.
